If you’ve been to O Comic Con before, then you’re already familiar with the Convention Center portion of the Mid-America Center. But did you know that we’re expanding O Comic Con 2017 into the entire venue? That’s right, we’re nearly DOUBLING the size of our show. This year, we enter THE ARENA! Read on to learn some helpful information about the venue.

Show Information

O Comic Con 2017 will be held July 7th, 8th, and 9th at the Mid-America Center. The Mid-America Center is located at 1 Arena Way, Council Bluffs, IA 51501.

Show hours

Friday, July 7th: 12 PM – 8 PM
Saturday, July 8th: 9 AM – 8 PM
Sunday, July 9th: 9 AM – 5 PM

Admission

See tickets page. We encourage the purchase of advance tickets, but we do sell tickets at the door and accept cash and all major credit cards. Kids twelve and under are admitted free with a paid adult. No kids’ ticket purchase is necessary– just bring the kids along with you and they will receive wristbands at the same time you receive yours.

Parking

Parking at the MAC is always free. There is ample parking in the open lots that surround the venue. Please be cautious around the construction in the area.

Entrance

This year, the O Comic Con entry is the South Entry — not the Convention Center Entry as it was in previous years. This new, spacious entry near the Arena will help us accommodate attendees better than ever.

Accessibility

As a frequent destination for concerts and events, the Mid-America Center has an open, wheelchair-accessible layout. The O Comic Con layout for 2017 makes use of the main floor only. We strive to make each part of our show accessible for those with disabilities. Panel rooms are spacious with flexible seating configurations.

If you or a member of your party is sensory sensitive, please know that the show will be crowded at times. There are seating areas near all of the concession stands for patrons who need to take a break, and panel rooms hosting quieter activities or screenings may be ideal places to take a break during the event. Consider planning your day around the less busy times (Friday and Sunday are typically quieter and less crowded than Saturday, and afternoons are more crowded than the hours around opening and closing.) Your admission is good for the entire day. If you need to leave the venue and come back, you are always welcome to re-enter as long as you still wearing your wristband.

Food and Drink

The venue’s policy is that no outside food or drink is permitted. However, there are plenty of reasonably priced concessions stands inside the venue, and several restaurants nearby if you would like to take a meal break away from the show. There are also quite a few water fountains located throughout the venue to help you stay hydrated during the day.

South Entry

mid america center wibbly wobbly entrance statuesThe South Entry is where you enter O Comic Con from the outside. Look for the circle of columnar Dangos near the ticket window. (You’ll recognize them as the cool-looking pattern-y circley-wircley statues. How’s that for specific? Ha!)  That’s how you know you’re in the right general area.

The Arena Floor

Straight ahead from the entrance is the Arena floor. The Arena houses all of our vendors and artists. This is the main hub of the show. During the entire event hours, you can go inside and browse to your heart’s content among all the great things for sale. All of our guests will be here too, when they’re not at panels. The long flank of Autograph Tables will host our media guests, and you will be able to purchase autographs and photos at the table from them. The F and G flanks will host our Creator Guests. Stop by and ask for a sketch or check out their comics and art for sale!

The ExHall

As you leave the Arena portion of the MAC, you will enter into the Convention Center portion via a hallway. Immediately to your left will be the first entrance to the ExHall. The ExHall will host some fantastic events all weekend: from wrestling matches by PWP Live Pro Wrestling to podcast interviews in our Podcast Arcade, the ExHall will always have something going on. Collections, exhibitions, and cosplay groups will also be present here. And finally, our favorite Star Wars costuming clubs will be setting up shop here, too! The Mandalorian Mercs, 501st Legion, and the Rebel Legion will all be out in full force.

Panel Rooms

As you pass the ExHall, you will be entering the Programming area of the convention. These named Panel Rooms will host everything from media guest Q&As to games.

The Gordon Room: Media Guest Q&As and the Cosplay Contest (held Saturday at 6:00 PM.)
The Parker Room: Photo ops with Media Guests
The Danvers Room, Jupiter Room, and Richards Room: Panels held each hour on a variety of topics. From how-tos on novel writing and podcasting to discussions of films and comics, these rooms will host lively discussions throughout the event.
The Kent Room: Tabletop games hosted by Spielbound and PretzCon.

Schedule

We know, we know– the anticipation is killing us, too! Expect a full schedule of events in June. We hope you are looking forward to O Comic Con 2017 as much as we are. Together, we will build a colossal event!
